About

Things about me:

  • I was the kid stuck at the table because I won’t eat the hot dog – “Please mom, can’t I get more broccoli?”
  • Though I moved from NY to Boulder, CO, I have never worn patchouli oil or dreaded my hair (nor do I plan to, but I do have friends who do)
  • More often I can be found wearing heels and lipstick – I love lipstick and the phrase “you’re such a girl” has followed me throughout my life

Why am I telling you this? Because I want to make it clear off the bat what I am, so you know whether I can help you.

I am not an expert, I am a researcher by nature and by necessity. I few years back, I was getting myself into a horrible health state. Though I am a vegetarian, some would say by birth, I was eating wrong.

I loved fried foods, cheese, pasta and bread, and only ate frozen foods at home, when I was eating at home. Most of my meals were, at best, prepared by a restaurant – though too often than not, a bag of chips or a slice of pizza was a meal.

I never took vitamins or supplements. I thought since I didn’t take any prescription drugs, I was considered healthy.

When I landed on the Acupuncturist’s table – after a series of doctors told me they wanted my ovaries – I found out a few things about myself.

The first one I really remember hitting home was when Susannah (my Acupuncturist) said, “So, you eat a lot of veggies” to which I enthusiastically replied, “Yeah, broccoli is my favorite food.”

“So, how much do you get in a day?” She questioned.

“Well, I always try to get something that has it in it – you know, if I am getting pasta, I have them add some…”

This is when she astutely pointed out that many people think they are getting their veggie, when, in fact, they are not.

“You should be eating a bowl of veggies to your bowl of pasta, if you insist on eating the pasta.”

If I insist on eating pasta? Was there a reason I should not be eating pasta? Because I probably ate more pasta than The Sopranos. (Well, actually, I never really watched that show – did I mention in addition to being “such a girl,” I am a wuss.)

What I would learn about eating was nothing compared to what I would learn about the skin care products I used, the water I drank and the connection between my body and my mind.

This blog is dedicated to helping other people find some of these answers quicker than I di, while at the same time expanding my knowledge.

P.S. For the record, Susannah does not push being a veghead – in fact, she has, on occasion, suggested that I should consider eating meat. But like I tell her, asking me to eat meat is like asking a lesbian to date men – or a gay man to date women – it’s not something I can change about myself.

So, on that note, I won’t try to change you into anything you are not – I am just offering some insights into what I have learned and will learn through this blog.
