When I was in Florida recently, I realized I had left my organic sunscreen at my father’s house. We were driving a convertible, so – of course – I insisted on having the top down.
We stopped to grab sunblock. Being away from home, we couldn’t be too choosy. But as I placed it on my skin, I kept thinking, “Ok, so why am I putting this toxin loaded lotion on my skin to protect me from the sun?”
My man kept reminding me it was only one time and to just deal, but now that I’m home, I am going to check it out a site I heard about called Skin Deep (a.ka. CosmeticDatabase) to find out how bad they rated it. That is, if I can find where he put that lotion…
Right now, you are probably asking what Skin Deep is:
This is how their site describes it:
“Skin Deep is a safety guide to cosmetics and personal care products brought to you by researchers at the Environmental Working Group.”
Basically they help you find out what toxins are in the products you use – in an effort to really keep our skin and body looking healthy and feeling clean.
Why the concern? As their site states: “Because the FDA doesn’t require companies to test their own products for safety.”
That is a strong claim, so I advice you to do your own research and find out what the FDA does require – as well as what the products you use (on yourself and your family) might contain.
Skin Deep is a good starting point – but it is not the last word…

I am getting more concerned about the skin care and cosmetics products too. I find Skin Deep to be very informative.
I have recently tried some products from the Aglow range from Amazing Biotech and found it to be very good. The products are made from Virgin Coconut Oil and free from chemicals. It shows results within days of application. Try check it out from the following website:

A skin care company I like and personally use is Novaurora Organic Skin Care.
Pam, who started the company, lives in Boulder. After meeting her through an old friend, I decided to give her products a try.
I usually break out from everything and anything.
That doesn’t happen with the Novaurora products. I liked them so much I ended up helping her with her website for a partial trade of products and continue to use her products every day!
